This year there will be no opening ceremony for IPL 2020. It is the second year in a row when the ceremony has been canceled.
This year there is also a restriction to the number of fans and cheerleaders in IPL. Last year the opening ceremony was canceled due to the fund donation for CRPF families.
Due to the ongoing pandemic situation players have been adviced to stay in the bio bubble. They have been strictly adviced to follow the bio restricted norms as imposed by BCCI.
As per the norms, any ignorance towards the bio restriction will lead to punishments.
No opening ceremony due to Pandemic
This decision has been taken keeping in mind the COVID situation. Cheerleaders on the ground would bring more people together.
This might not maintain social distancing norms.
Earlier two people from Chennai Super Kings had tested positive for the virus. Many top-level players like Harbhajan Singh pulled out of IPL due to the pandemic.
Sourav Ganguly said that this year there will be a higher viewership of the match on TV and other platforms. This is because the fans are not allowed this year.
He further added that the broadcasters are expecting the highest rating this year.
Only 30 percent of spectators will be allowed in the stadium. They will however have to follow the social distancing norms.
He further added that the spectators will have to pass the COVID test before entering the stadium.
As per the reports, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will play the opening match of IPL 2020. This year CSK received a huge blow when its top players Suresh Raina left.
The player left after his family was attacked by robbers.
Later Harbhajan Singh also backed off due to the pandemic situation. CSK has found replacements for the player and is looking forward to the opening match.
