While many know Fakhar Zaman for his century against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, there is a whole lot of background which they don’t. At the age of 16, Zaman moved to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan to join the navy. When many dreamt of higher education, Zaman was sailing the seas of Pakistan at a tender age. His passion for cricket never stayed away and the latter was always at the top of his game wherever he performed. The name Fakhar literally translates to “pride”. Amongst his teammates, he is known by the nickname fauji (soldier).
Following a wise coach’s advice, Zaman left the navy to pursue a career as a professional cricketer. After leaving the Navy, Fakhar Zaman spent a lot of time playing domestic cricket and showcasing his skills. A left-handed batsman and a handy part-time slow left-arm, his methods suit the limited-overs format. He had a fantastic run in the 2016 edition of the Pakistan Cup where he scored 297 runs in five games including 2 fifties and a century.
