Dinesh Karthik might handle the captaincy of KKR

The second phase of IPL 2021 is all set to start from September. However, the ECB board has announced that the England players will not be available for the matches due to their busy schedules. This news has come as a huge blow for all the franchises. KKR is the most affected franchise because of this. They will miss the presence of Eoin Morgan. In such a dilemma, Dinesh Karthik might handle the captaincy of the team.

Karthik has handled the captaincy of KKR earlier as well. This was when Shubham Gill was released ahead of IPL 2018 season. However, he failed to impress as the team did not perform well under his captaincy. This was the time when Eoin Morgan was chosen for the role.

There are a few chances of Dinesh Karthik getting his captaincy job

Karthik failed to perform well as the captain. He could only win 21 out of 37 matches played. He had a winning percentage of about 51%. With just 7 matches remaining in the second phase of IPL 2021, it will be very unlikely of KKR to pick up Karthik for the role.

On the other hand, if the Australian players are available for the second phase, then Pat Cummins might get the job of the captain of KKR.

Cummins is of the best bowlers on the team and he was also the first one to be included in the playing XI squad.

BCCI has confirmed that IPL 2021 second phase will be conducted between September 15 and October 15. At this time England will be busy with their Bangladesh tour. The absence of the English players can be a major loss for most of the franchises.
