BCCI Looking At September Window To Conclude IPL 2021

BCCI: In view of the rising cases, the BCCI has indefinitely suspended the ongoing IPL season. This decision comes after over 5 players and 2 staff members tested positive over the last two days. Following the PBKS Vs DC (Match 29) encounter, over 5 players have tested positive over the past 2 days. Those who tested positive include players like Varun Chakravarthy (KKR), Sandeep Warrier (KKR), Pat Cummins (KKR), Amit Mishra (DC), and Wriddhiman Saha (SRH). Also, CSK coach Laxmipathy Balaji and a staff member and bus driver have tested positive for the COVID-19.

Earlier, the BCCI decided to suspend the IPL for a week. However, the worsening situation has compelled the BCCI to postpone IPL 2021 indefinitely. Although this decision deeply saddens cricket fans across the globe, former cricketers have lauded BCCI’s decision. However, BCCI officials now face the bigger problem of figuring out the next nearest window to conclude the season. BCCI officials are racking their brains over what next as well as what if.

BCCI Looking At September Window To Conclude IPL 2021

As per reports, BCCI is looking at September 2021 as a possible window to conclude the 2021 season. So far, 29 of the 60 games have been played, and the BCCI is exploring the option of holding the remaining 31 games in September. Earlier, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel said that the board is currently exploring multiple windows to conclude the season. With September being the most possible, the board also needs to examine the plans of the ICC and other boards.

With the T20 World Cup scheduled in October, the board will need 3 weeks to conclude the tournament. By then, the England-India series would be over, and all foreign players would be ready for the T20 World Cup.  India’s tour of England is set to end on September 14.

Earlier, the positive reports from SRH and DC camps forced BCCI to take a tough decision of suspending the league.
